Craig Walsh and the Powerhouse Museum

Summer must be a busy time for artists. Not being one myself, I couldn’t say for sure, but given the spate of recent postings on this blog about 01SJ artists and their new works or exhibitons, I’d say it was a pretty good supposition.  Criag Walsh creator of  Incursion 37:20:15.71” N – 121, the glorious writhing mass of organic forms inside the San Jose  Rotunda VinesCity Hall Rotunda last year, is set to unveil his latest work, Artefact H10515 at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney Australia.  “Artefact H10515 is a living, unidentifiable object and sits in contrast to how objects in a museum are usually presented. It raises questions about what a museum experience can be; questions that the visitor can contemplate and answer for themselves,” explained Craig Walsh.  Given challenges being faced by museums arounds exhibitons and collections, this sounds like a timely installation.

Check it out…

Markers and 100,000-year journey by Xavier Cortada. headlines a major art exhibition that takes an up close and personal look at the ramifications of global climate change.  Polar Identity, curated by Danielle Siembieda, opened at WORKS gallery in San Jose as part of a maturing South First Fridays gallery crawl.  I am particularly proud of this exhibition, a product of graduate students at CADRE Laboratory and co-sponsored by CADRE and ZER01.  Was terrific to meet and greet the attending artists and all of those who helped realize this project which presents a provocative view of the dynamics in a rapidly changing environment.  A crowd of nearly 1000 attended the opening, a virtual who’s who of the South Bay art scene. Truly international in scope the exhibition includes Andrea Poli, Xavier Cortada,  Jerome Gueneau, Catherine Rannou, Phil Boissonnet, Andrea Juan, and Erika Blumenfeld, and was juried by Hasan Elahi, Annick Bureaud and Robin Lasser. To learn more about the exhibition and artists tap into CADRE’s on-line media journal Switch <switch.sjsu.edu>.
