Blowing minds since 1959, KFJC is a conduit for new and interesting audio art and information, especially the sorts that aren’t available anywhere else.  Could we ask for a more perfect broadcast partner?  If you haven’t checked them out, there’s no time like the present!

Superlight awared inclusion in AIGA 50 Books 50 Covers

Congratulations to the fabulous designers of the Superlight catalog, Andrew Blauvelt and Matthew Rezac!  Gaining inclusion in AIGA 50 Books 50 Covers is quite a coup. superlight-front

Here’s what it’s all about: This time-honored competition seeks to identify the 50 best-designed books and book covers that have been designed, produced and used in the marketplace between January 1 and December 31 of 2008, as chosen by distinguished jurors. As such, they become part of the AIGA Design Archives, a searchable visual database of exemplary design, they are exhibited at the AIGA National Design Center in New York and offered as a traveling exhibition for display across the country. The physical artifacts comprise the AIGA Design Archives at the Denver Art Museum. A second set of the awarded books and covers becomes part of the Rare Books and Manuscripts Collection at the Butler Library, Columbia University, New York.

Whetting the Makers’ Whistles

If you need additional motivation to attend Maker Faire this weekend, then do it to support Jason Cayabyab and Eric Dorf who will both be in the ZER01 booth giving people a taste of what SubZERO’s all about. Both are recent SJSU CADRE grads who have been exploring the boundaries of new media.  Jason’s Wii Are Board seemlessly marries the culture of skateboarding and Nintendo Wii technology while Eric’s Face Surveillance “watches over” and monitors the facial expressions of his subjects as they watch short video clips meant to evoke emotional responses.  Be sure to stop by our booth and check out both installations.

SubZERO Line-up Final

subzer02-graphic-for-ybcaIt’s been fun watching the line-up for SubZERO come together.  The two stages have an incredible mix of talent and diverse musical styles that are a perfect sampling of the local indie music scene.  From Evolution Control Committee with their Wheel of Mashup and VidiMasher 3000 that their PR materials tout as “faster than a DJ, cooler than a laptop show; it’s the short-attention span dance party you’ve been waiting for!”   If electronica/experimental music is more your speed, then check out Baron Zen.  Or if you prefer string metal, there’s always Judgement Day.

Beyond the stages there are yarn bombers, hot dog obsessions, a summer slumberfest and much more.  Check out the complete line-up/street guide for SubZERO here.
